Habitat for Humanity Newark to Team-up with 100 Volunteers from JPMorgan Chase to Build Harmony Point
Newark, NJ (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- In one of the largest single-day builds in the history of Habitat for Humanity Newark, JPMorgan Chase will deploy 100 volunteers to help build “Harmony Point” in the South Ward of Newark on Thursday, June 11.
“This is the first time we have had the opportunity to work with JP Morgan Chase on a build and could not be more pleased to learn they are bringing 100 volunteers,” said Habitat Newark CEO Jeffrey Farrell. “Harmony Point is the most ambitious construction in our history that will enable Habitat Newark to serve more low-income families than ever and will engage the community at large. It makes perfect sense to have Harmony Point host one of the largest single-day builds we have ever done.”
Farrell said he is pleased the JPMorgan Chase team will be led by Gregg Gunselman, Managing Director and head of Capital Management at JP Morgan Chase. Farrell looks forward to greeting Gunselman and his especially large team at the build site.
“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate summer than to help build homes with low-income families in our community,” Gunselman said. “My team and I are proud to be a part of the strong partnership JPMorgan Chase has with Habitat for Humanity of New Jersey.”
Once completed, Harmony Point will feature 23 homes around 100 Hawthorne Ave. The JPMorgan Chase team will be working on the first phase, which includes three, three-family condo units, available in two- and three-bedroom layouts.
The Harmony Point complex is designed to reflect the neighborhood and the community as a whole. Habitat Newark’s family partners will purchase these homes for between $60,000 and $80,000, with no money down and a zero percent interest mortgage provided by Habitat Newark. Each family must contribute a minimum of 200 hours of “sweat equity” in helping to build their home.
“This is a historic and proud moment for Habitat Newark,” Farrell said. “JPMorgan Chase is helping us undertake our largest construction project in our organization’s almost 30 year history. We are thankful to JPMorgan Chase and the many other hard-working volunteers and donors for helping us get to this point.”
