Habitat Greensboro Awards Small Wonders Scholarships to 5 Recipients
Greensboro, NC (PRWEB) August 02, 2013 -- For the second consecutive year, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro has awarded Small Wonders Scholarships to Habitat homeowners and family members in Greensboro. The Small Wonders Scholarship Fund was started through an endowment provided by Joyce Powers of Greensboro. The fund gives financial support to Habitat Greensboro homeowners and family members to continue their education.
The scholarship funds can be used for education needs including colleges, trade schools and to obtain a GED. The amount available each year is based on proceeds earned from the endowment. In 2013 a total of $2,500 has been awarded. To qualify, applicants must be a Habitat homeowner, child or grandchild, and a resident of Guilford County. In addition to applying and providing letters of recommendation, applicants are required to complete 8 hours of sweat equity with Habitat before the funds are dispersed.
The five recipients for 2013 include: Jolle Manskasi receiving $500 to pursue a degree in public health at UNCG; Comlavi Agbemadon receiving $500 to pursue a certificate in accounting at Randolph Community College; Timothy Hicks receiving $500 to pursue a degree in telecommunications and network engineering at GTCC; Ayeshan Parker receiving $500 to pursue a pre-nursing degree at UNCG; and Kenny Rangel receiving $500 to continue his degree in biology at UNC-Chapel Hill.
In 2012, the program's first year, 6 scholarships were awarded for a total of $2,340. The educational goals of the recipients included college degree programs in biology, accounting, and psychology, as well as community college programs in nursing, medical assisting and business administration.

The Small Wonders Scholarship Fund is aimed at helping homeowners and their families realize their educational potential.”
