Hagley Awarded Grant for Collection Containing RCA Records
Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) January 06, 2014 -- Hagley Museum and Library received the Cataloging Special and Hidden Collections grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) to process and catalog the David Sarnoff Library collection. The collection contains the personal papers of David Sarnoff, the iconic pioneer of the radio and television broadcast industry, as well as corporate and technical reports of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and some papers of the National Broadcast Corporation (NBC). The David Sarnoff Library collection will be open to researchers in 2017.
Hagley received approximately 3,000 linear feet of documents when the David Sarnoff Library, then located in Princeton, New Jersey, closed in 2009. “Since the collection's arrival, high-demand portions of the collection have been continually identified and processed as staff time permitted; however, through the generous support of CLIR, the collection will be available in its entirety in three years.” says Erik Rau, Hagley’s director of library services.
Highlights of the collection include documentation of David Sarnoff’s career from telegraph operator to company president, an early history of radio and television communications, and technical information from the labs. Hagley has a digitized component of the collection, including images and documents, available on Hagley's website, http://www.hagley.org.
