Halo Smart Labs Protects Homes and Families During Hurricane Season with Halo WX, the Smoke and CO Alarm that Includes Weather and Hazard Alerts
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Halo Smart Labs has launched its industry-first combination of multi-sensor technology for flash fires, smoldering fires, and carbon monoxide in a single device in an Indiegogo campaign that has already collected more than $73,000 in pre-orders. Halo WX is the first smoke alarm that alerts users to location-specific weather and emergency warnings. The alarm comes preprogrammed to receive tornado alerts but also offers over 15 customizable alerts including severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, flash floods, and child abductions.
Hurricane season in the Atlantic runs from June 1 to November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. The NHC has reported anywhere from 2 to 14 hurricanes per year, which annually result in hundreds of injuries and deaths and billions of dollars in damage. During a hurricane, even areas well away from the coastline can be threatened by dangerous flooding, destructive winds, and tornadoes triggered by these storms. The NHC issues watches, warnings, and forecasts of hazardous tropical weather. Halo WX picks up every NHC update, delivering the alerts users want directly to their homes and mobile devices.
“Since our inception, an integral part of the mission at Halo Smart Labs has been to create a safer home for the people we love,” said Ben Stagg, co-founder of Halo Smart Labs. “House fires aren’t the only threat to homes and families, and we wanted to create a device that would provide the most thorough and reliable protection possible from hazards both inside and outside the home.”
During an emergency, power outages are common and cell phones often don’t work. Halo WX is hardwired directly into a home’s power source and has a battery back-up, so the home is capable of receiving emergency messaging for up to 7 days following a loss of power. These emergency messages include evacuation routes, as well as the locations of shelters and safe drinking water.
Halo WX also connects to the Internet, home-automation systems, and mobile devices, allowing users to receive alerts and adjust settings through iOS and Android apps. Halo also sends alerts to mobile devices so users can be made aware of dangers to their home, even thousands of miles away. Installing a Halo smoke alarm makes users eligible for up to a 10% smart technology discount on home insurance policies. Depending on the state, this discount can pay for the device in as little as five months.
The early-bird Halo WX packages have already sold out on Indiegogo, but Halo and its battery-powered version are still available for a reduced price of $80, and Halo WX can still be pre-ordered below MSRP. Multi-alarm packages are available for as low as $200.

ABOUT HALO SMART LABS
Halo Smart Labs was born out of tragedy and developed out of necessity. Ben Stagg’s father had a close call when tornadoes in Joplin, MO, took the lives of 160 people in 2011. He began to question the usefulness of current tornado warning systems. Stagg and fellow co-founder Chad White teamed up to create a safer way to protect families from tornadoes, but quickly incorporated other natural disasters into their industry-first alert system. Later, after a home fire struck another one of Stagg’s family members in 2014, the co-founders realized the shortcomings of current smoke detectors and set out to build the world’s safest, smartest smoke alarm right here in the USA. Soon, Halo and Halo WX were born. Halo Smart Labs is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Learn more at http://www.halosmartlabs.com.
