Hank Bosco Day Honors Glenwood Springs Businessman and Philanthropist
Glenwood Springs, Colo. (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- At its most recent meeting on April 16, the Glenwood Springs City Council adopted a proclamation to honor the lifetime achievements of Henry “Hank” Bosco. Mayor Leo McKinney read the proclamation as well as a congratulatory letter from United States Senator Michael Bennet and a Congressional Tribute prepared by Congressman Scott Tipton. The tribute was read by Tipton on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and submitted into the Congressional Record.
In addition to the proclamation, Bosco was honored on April 17, at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool where he served as President and Chairman of the Board. Accepting the award on behalf of their father, who at 93 was unable to attend the ceremony, were his sons Gary Bosco, who recently retired as Facilities Maintenance Director for Glenwood Hot Springs and John Bosco, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Glenwood Hot Springs.

We thank and honor him for his years of generosity and service to our community.”
Glenwood Hot Springs, which Bosco helped to shape into the world-famous destination it is today, commemorated Bosco’s lifetime achievements on Friday, April 17 when 25 percent of the day’s receipts were donated to YouthZone, one of Bosco’s favorite local charities and one that he helped found. YouthZone is a non-profit dedicated to providing opportunities for youth to be responsible, contributing members of their families and society.
A Glenwood Springs native, Bosco was born in 1922, the only child of Italian immigrant parents. As a youngster he lived and worked in his parents’ hotel, the Star Hotel. In 1938, his father purchased the adjacent Denver Hotel. Bosco spent his youth learning the ropes of the hospitality industry and the value of excellent customer service. After graduating from high school in 1940, he attended the University of Colorado, and in his junior year enlisted in the Army Reserves. Hank went on to serve as a rifleman with the 70th Infantry Division and saw action in France, Germany and Belgium during WWII. Upon returning to Glenwood Springs, Hank and his father expanded the Denver Hotel. In 1950 he married Dorothy Cowles and had four children.
In 1956, he was one of 22 businessmen that purchased the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and served on its Board of Directors; in 1976 he became the General Manager. Bosco served as President until 2012 and Chairman of the Board until resigning in February 2015. This milestone ends 59 years of involvement with the Pool. In 2008, Glenwood Hot Springs opened the Spa of the Rockies as part of a $12 million restoration of the 120 year old red sandstone building.
As a community leader Hank served on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission, was a City Councilor, a member of the Elks Lodge and Club 20, and served on the Board of Directors of the Valley View Hospital Association. In addition to being a founder of YouthZone, he was involved with Community on the Move and served on the Board of Directors of both First National Bank (US Bank) and Mesa National Bank (American National Bank).
Over the years, Hank Bosco has been honored with numerous awards including:
• Being named Citizen of the Year in 2006 by the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association
• Induction into the Italian-American Hall of Fame in 2009
• Induction into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame in 2010
Hank was fond of saying, “Anything I may have accomplished during my lifetime, I owe to the blessing of being able to surround myself with so many close friends, fellow employees and advisors. I humbly owe any successes to them, and any of my failures are mine alone.”
Under Bosco’s direction Glenwood Hot Springs and the Spa of the Rockies have become major attractions that continue to contribute to a thriving business and tourism community in Glenwood Springs.
