Hannon Hill Releases Cascade Server 7.6 with New Drag-and-Drop File Upload and Velocity Imports
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Hannon Hill Corporation, creator of the premier enterprise content management system (CMS) for Higher Education, has released Cascade Server 7.6. The newest version of its industry-leading CMS software introduces several new features designed to improve the content authoring experience for both end users and web developers.
A new addition designed to excite end users is the ability to drag files from a local machine straight into the web browser for faster uploading. Drag-and-drop upload gives users the flexibility to easily place objects that can sometimes be difficult to locate on their own machines using the traditional browsing method.
“Drag-and-drop might be one of the more undervalued features of web applications and websites in general. File uploading should be easy. It should be simple, elegant, and fast," said Hannon Hill’s Vice President of Engineering, Bradley Wagner. “Providing end users with a slicker upload process not only improves the user experience but also saves time.”
Cascade Server 7.6 also introduces a major addition to the Velocity Templating Language. Developed in-house by Lead Software Engineer, Mike Strauch, the import directive enables format writers to import (include) Velocity Formats that live in Cascade Server into other Velocity Formats. The content in the imported Formats will be parsed as VTL so that macros and other code can be used in the parent Format.
“In the software development world, copying and pasting code is a pretty huge no-no. Modularity and good use of abstraction almost always makes it easier to maintain code as well as implement new code that can make use of other well-abstracted code,” said Mike Strauch. “Allowing users to write common Velocity code once and then reuse it across Formats and across Sites is immensely beneficial in that the time required to maintain that code and the number of possible bugs in the code are both dramatically reduced.”
In addition to the enhancements on the front end, dramatic performance improvements were also added on the back end. Hannon Hill significantly sped up the Site Import and Export process so web developers can get larger sites into Cascade Server faster.
Another important note is that with the release of version 7.6, Cascade Server now supports SQL Server 2012.
