Hanson Duby, Toronto’s Leading Personal Injury Law Firm, Advises Bikers to Be Cautious After Cyclist Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident
Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Hanson Duby Personal Injury Law (http://www.HansonDuby.com), a personal injury law firm serving the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), is warning bikers to be cautious after a recent bicycle accident in which a 19-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained following a hit-and-run collision.
On Sunday, July 14, 2013, a 19-year-old cyclist died in hospital from injuries following a hit-and-run collision in Georgina, Ontario. Found lying in the road by a passerby, the man was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, but later died. Police subsequently charged an 18-year-old man from the town of East Gwillimbury in the hit-and-run accident. “We were deeply saddened to hear about the death of this young cyclist,” said GTA personal injury lawyer Spyros Bekiaris, whose law firm, Hanson Duby Personal Injury Law, represents accident victims and their families. “This tragic accident highlights the risks associated with cycling, and goes to show that even everyday leisurely sports can be deadly.”
Bekiaris joined Hanson Duby Lawyers as an associate in September 2010. He graduated from York University with an honours BA in political science in 2006 and from the Queen’s University, Faculty of Law with a JD in 2009. He formerly worked at a boutique insurance defence firm in Toronto, representing insurance companies.
Bekiaris has appeared before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Divisional Court. Bekiaris represents clients in a variety of disputes including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefits, slips and falls, property damage claims, and assault, representing the victims. Bekiaris is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association.
Because a bicycle is considered a vehicle under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, cyclists in the GTA have just as much right to use the road as everyone else. Unfortunately, far too many cyclists are being injured or killed by negligent or distracted drivers. In fact, Ontario's chief coroner, in reviewing all cycling deaths in Ontario from 2006 to 2010, found that every single one of the 129 deaths was completely preventable. “As personal injury lawyers, we know first-hand how devastating cycling accidents can be for families,” Bekiaris adds. “At Hanson Duby Personal Injury Law, our experienced team of personal injury lawyers provide legal services to anyone injured in a bicycle accident and family members of those who’ve died in a cycling accident.”
