Harvey Mudd College Improves Visitor Experience with New, Customizable Interactive Campus Map Platform from CampusBird
Boulder CO (PRWEB) January 08, 2015 -- College campuses are constantly evolving, and traditionally it has been difficult for the campus map to keep pace. But a new campus map at Harvey Mudd College, built upon the CampusBird platform from concept3D, is helping the school better serve its students, faculty, staff and visitors by reflecting campus changes in near real time.
The interactive digital map includes photos and detailed descriptions of locations such as academic halls, dormitories, dining facilities, performance galleries, parking areas, and other points of interest. The platform’s user-friendly interface allows the college’s marketing department to make changes to the map, add and create materials at will, and house them all in the same place. Viewers can then simply choose a category of interest on the map and then click corresponding pins for up-to-date information.
For instance, an individual who is interested in ongoing construction can drill down to information about the first of two new residence halls going up on campus—complete with a webcam showing up-to-the-minute feeds. The college can also tailor the map for major campus events such as Alumni Weekend, Family Weekend and Commencement, which helps the larger community access timely information and improves the overall campus experience.
Harvey Mudd, widely regarded as one of the top engineering schools in the country, is part of The Claremont Colleges. This consortium comprises two graduate institutions, the Claremont University Consortium, and five undergraduate liberal arts colleges: Pomona College, Scripps College, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, and Pitzer College. While each institution has its own campus, students and faculty, undergraduate students may choose from more than 2,000 courses offered each year across the colleges.
Because these other consortium colleges also use the CampusBird platform, which creates a consistent look and feel across the various digital maps, Harvey Mudd students and visitors will now undergo a smoother experience as they navigate to classes and other activities on nearby campuses. This setup allows each school in the consortium to highlight its specialties on its own map while featuring the school’s proximity to a wide range of academic and other campus resources.
Harvey Mudd also plans to enhance visitor interaction through an online personal tour. Visitors who view the map on their cell phones will soon be able to use it as a personal guide as they explore campus. In addition, they can use it to map out their visit in detail before leaving home. For example, an individual planning a trip to one of the buildings on campus will be able to access point-by-point directions from their starting location via car, bicycle, foot or public transportation.
