Sleep Train Foster Kids is a program of the nonprofit Ticket to Dream Foundation, created in 2008 to make a positive impact on the lives of foster children in need. There are over 60,000 children in the California foster care system, many of whom go to their new foster homes with only the clothes on their backs, having fled from abuse and neglect. While foster parents are given a stipend to cover basic needs, it is often not enough to really provide for all necessities. Children require and deserve seasonally appropriate clothing, well-fitting clothes and shoes, new backpacks and school supplies, not to mention Christmas and birthday presents. Through clothing and monetary donations, Sleep Train strives to fill those gaps, helping to boost kids’ self-esteem and allowing them to fit in with their peers.
