Havahart Announces 2nd Annual Nationwide Search for the Most Heartbreaking Deer John Letters
Lititz, PA (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- Havahart®, the leading producer of humane products designed to send nuisance wildlife packing, has launched its 2nd annual Deer John contest. The nationwide contest seeks out the most poignant Deer John rejection letters delivered to damaging deer. Did a fawn feast on your foliage the night before your son’s backyard graduation party? Did you witness a doe helping herself to your hostas right before your disbelieving eyes? If so, Havahart wants to hear about it. Submit a Deer John letter explaining why it’s high time to break off your relationship with Bambi. The most heart-felt letters will be awarded $300, $200 and $100 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Additionally, ten runner-ups will each receive a $40 Havahart Deer Off® Repellent prize package. The contest runs through Aug. 31, 2014.
“Providing homeowners with effective, caring control products for nuisance wildlife is a top priority at Havahart because we fully recognize the damage these critters can wreak on landscapes,” says Allyssa Kelley, Category Development Associate at Havahart. “We also understand the anger and frustration people suffer when their prized perennials are ravaged by hungry deer. Dear John rejection letters originated during WWII when troops were deployed for long periods of time. As time passed, many girls decided to begin a relationship with someone new, rather than stick around and wait for their original beau to return. In the course of a few curt paragraphs, they would send formally written Dear John letters to their boyfriends or spouses, explaining that the relationship was over.
Last year, hundreds of people penned Deer John letters, sharing sad stories of fizzled out love affairs with Bambi, heart wrenching poems about ruined gardens, and tragic tales of deer damaged landscapes. The winning entry recounted one man’s growing disenchantment with the deer that once charmed him but slowly faded as the deer’s ‘foraging ways destroyed and laid waste’ to his garden.
“This is an equal opportunity contest; Deer John letters addressed to rabbits, squirrels and other backyard invaders are fair game,” notes Kelley. “Regardless of which critter you’re breaking up with, it’s good to know that Havahart has an entire line of humane wildlife control products that guarantees breaking up is not hard to do.”
