Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- With hazing problems and incidents being reported as early as middle and high school, prevention education is a crucial part of the solution. This online program has reached an important milestone – over 38,000 North American college students have completed the program.
After taking the course, 85% of students surveyed reported an increase in awareness and knowledge about what hazing is, and 94% of them reported feeling more empowered to be part of the solution to prevent hazing.
“As more colleges and organizations adopt the program, the data consistently indicates a positive impact,” said Sandy Mills-Alford, AliveTek President and CEO. “Since its inception with the Florida State University System in 2014, the program has expanded throughout the United States and Canada. We are not only reaching colleges and universities of all sizes, but we have also extended the offering into the high school level.”
Mills-Alford continued, “The growth of this program has much to do with the great ideas of the flagship adopters. Many student services professionals who are dedicated to hazing prevention have helped to guide the improvements and additional modules.”
The Fraternity & Sorority Life module add-on, for example, extends the education by diving deeper into the specific needs of fraternity and sorority life. An Athletic module is being designed for both recreational and division athletes. The High School edition, which focuses on the specific needs of high school groups, clubs and sports has been developed and will be pilot-tested in the state of New York in October, 2016. All of these offerings come with a Facilitator’s Guide, so conversations can happen before and after the online learning experience.
With many options for implementation and the ability to customize the course for an institution, schools are utilizing the courses in several ways. Some are requiring first-year college students to participate, while others may offer the program to specific groups, chapters or teams.
“One of the most exciting things for us to see is the great increase in the number and percentage of students who now see themselves as part of the solution” said Emily Pualwan, Executive Director of HazingPrevention.Org. We are seeing a cultural shift from ‘its not my problem’ to prevention being the entire school communities’ responsibility.”
