HD camera drone—Lily—touts new, strikingly elegant web design from BigDrop Inc.
New York City, NY (PRWEB) June 22, 2015 -- Fantastic ideas demand an immaculate web presence. One such notion, the Lily autonomous, aerial camera was conceived as a solution to a mother’s shoddy photography skills and her conspicuous absence from every picture during a ski trip. Now the ultimate, hands-off memory maker is a soaring reality. The product, passion, and process were all there from the beginning. Creator, Antoine Balaresque, had everything going for him except a web presence to match his grand ambitions. That’s where New York digital design agency, BigDrop Inc. became a real asset.
According to Antoine, hooking up with BigDrop was as easy as performing a Google search:
“We did an extensive search online and we liked their style. We talked to Garry [Kanfer, the CEO of BigDrop Inc.] and he worked well with our team, but the thing that really drew us to them? They were willing to move fast. That was exciting because we felt like we had a similar work ethic, and that they were versatile enough to move at our speed. It was enough for us to decide that we should work together long term.”
Getting on the same wavelength with an outside team of designers/developers is often a challenge, but BigDrop was ready to hit the ground running. While the vision and innovation behind the Lily were both clear, the nitty-gritty of the UI was still blurry. The devil is always in the details and fleshing out the ideas that the Lily crew brought to the table is where BigDrop really set itself apart. As Antoine put it: “We came to them with specific design guidelines. We gave the creative direction, and the designers implemented the technical details. One thing that really impressed us was when we gave them our concept illustrations for the homepage and they animated them. We’d never even thought of doing that. It added a lot of value.”
Concept and Implementation
The match was picture perfect. An enthusiastic firm that was able to provide personal attention and contemporary aesthetics at break-neck speed, plus an awesome startup with a well-defined brand narrative. For their part, BigDrop was excited to display their design savvy while implementing the minutiae. Antoine knew that he “…wanted to use the latest technologies available, and have something really truly creative,” but he didn’t know what specific techniques would be necessary to bring his vision to life.
The BigDrop team started with bleeding edge techniques involving SVG. Doing so offered amazing opportunities for the aforementioned animations, visible on Lily’s homepage. They also relied on HTML5, CSS3, and the ever-dependable JavaScript to allow for the advanced manipulation of imagery, and calculation of element positioning. Combining these elements, BigDrop began developing the Lily brand story, which can be summed up in three words: simplicity, novelty, and wonder.
There was a challenge from the beginning to present something fresh. Antoine made it clear that he, “…wanted the web presence to match the process behind the product design. We wanted to create a very specific and simple story about Lily that was uniquely ours.” Because the product was so unique, the design had to be special to match. BigDrop built custom responsive grids for the product in order to ensure the best possible UX across platforms, and each design was painstakingly approved by Antoine—page by page.
The result? A clean, minimalist interface that instantly provides users with an idea of what Lily is, what it does, and how it works. Not to mention high praise from a satisfied client:
“If you’re a startup looking for a contractor or firm, the number one thing you’re looking for is someone who’s willing to iterate with you. And by that I mean someone who’ll work intimately with your team, understand the process, and be nimble enough to go at your speed. BigDrop was able to provide all of the above.”
The slick, sleek, and elegant web presence has helped launch a simple concept into a successful product line. An ingenious, automated, and aerial videographer is sure to garner a lot of hype. With write-ups by Mashable and TechCrunch, the sky is literally the limit for this consumer drone. Happy customers and successful products are the hallmark of an equally successful web presence. And with this particular project, BigDrop managed to make lofty goals seem firmly grounded in reality.
