(PRWEB) December 06, 2016 -- Dr. Evan Ransom, a leading facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in private practice in San Francisco, has been a long-time volunteer with Healing the Children (HTC) missions around the globe. Since moving to California, he has founded the Northern California chapter of HTC. Dr. Ransom will be directing the annual HTC mission to Ica, Peru in April 2017. The goal of the mission is to provide cleft lip, cleft palate, and congenital ear deformity (microtia) procedures to underprivileged children in the area. All procedures are performed pro bono and all medical supplies and staff time are donated.
“It is truly an honor to be a part of the HTC mission to Ica, Peru each year. By correcting facial birth defects in children who do not have the access or funds for specialized medical care, we can make a dramatic difference in their lives going forward,” says Dr. Evan Ransom, director of HTC Northern California and esteemed San Francisco facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
The Ica, Peru HTC mission is composed of a diverse team of about thirty medical volunteers, including nurses, speech pathologists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and surgeons as well as local medical students. Dr. Evan Ransom will also be joined by Dr. Joseph Rousso, a Manhattan facial plastic and craniofacial surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In a typical mission trip to Ica, Peru, anywhere from 50 to 70 surgeries are performed over the course of the week.
The Northern California chapter of HTC welcomes additional medical and administrative volunteers who are interested in the April 2017 trip. For more information about Healing the Children or how to support or volunteer for the 2017 trip to Peru, please visit HTCNorCal or call (415) 550-1070.
