Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 01, 2013 -- Health Care DataWorks, Inc., (HCD) is pleased to announce the addition of veteran healthcare technology and clinical specialist Kathleen Kimmel as chief clinical officer. Kimmel will play a key role in developing, designing and delivering strategic services to HCD’s healthcare customers. She joins a leadership team that continues to evolve to provide solutions that help hospitals and healthcare systems improve the quality of patient care.
Kimmel joins HCD with more than 30 years of healthcare experience and a strong business intelligence and performance management analytics background. Her wide range of skills includes hospital administration and product/project management, augmented by extensive knowledge of large health systems, academic organizations, community hospitals, and vendor organizations. Leadership experience extends to customer relations, business development, business process optimization, IT strategy and complex technology implementations. A registered nurse, Kimmel has held a variety of nursing management positions in the intensive care unit, cardiac care unit and cardiac catheter laboratory.
In her role at HCD, Kimmel will work closely with HCD clients to help them understand how business intelligence and analytics can be valuable assets as they face operational and strategic business challenges. She will use her expertise to coach hospital leadership on ways to capitalize on their data and use it to help improve patient care. As HCD continues to grow, Kimmel will provide valuable input into further development of product roadmaps, using feedback from HCD customers to ensure that future offerings are aligned with industry and health system needs.
“We are very fortunate to have a person of Kathleen’s caliber join our team, and know that she will have a solid impact on our business initiatives,” said Jason Buskirk, Health Care DataWorks CEO. “Her expertise will be of immeasurable value as we continue to build on our reputation for delivering the KnowledgeEdge™ enterprise data warehouse that helps healthcare organizations improve patient care while managing escalating costs. Kathleen’s knowledge of clinical and financial analytics, as well as her responsiveness to our clients’ needs, will affect the direction of our product and services roadmaps as we continue to deliver quality solutions.”
Kimmel brings a wealth of clinical experience and technical expertise to HCD. She has been a member of the faculty at the University of Colorado College of Nursing since 2004, where she provides lectures, e-learning and mentoring to graduate students in nursing informatics. In addition to her academic duties, she has also held a variety of positions in various business corporations.
Most recently, Kimmel was the chief nursing officer at MedeAnalytics, Inc., where she led the group responsible for product marketing, advertising, sales, and implementation of the clinical performance intelligence product suite. Prior to that, Kimmel spent a year as product manager of nursing solutions at McKesson Corporation, and an additional six years as vice president of nursing informatics. In that capacity, she created a shared governance team, dramatically increasing collaborative contributions and positioning McKesson as a strong thought leadership resource in the electronic health record (EHR) industry.
Stints at organizations including the Catholic Health Initiatives as director of clinical information systems, and IBM as healthcare and business intelligence consultant further honed her skills. She also held various posts at Integrated Medical System (IMS), now part of WebMD, where she gained valuable expertise in medical communication software that enables hospitals, laboratories, radiology centers, and insurance companies to communicate and share clinical, administrative and financial data.
Kimmel has been designated a Certified Healthcare Executive (CHE) from the American College of Healthcare Executives. She also sits on the board and holds credentials granted by the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). She has been recognized by the University of Colorado College of Nursing as an outstanding lecturer, and received numerous awards including HIMSS Outstanding Special Interest Group Member of the Year, IBM Technical Vitality Award and Bravo Award, and the Overall Award for Outstanding Achievement and Excellence presented by Microsoft. Kimmel has also been recognized by her peers and awarded the Microsoft Overall Award for Outstanding Achievement and Excellence.
Accepted as an international industry expert, Kimmel has made numerous presentations at events such as the American Nursing Informatics conferences, HIMSS annual conferences and summits, and American Nursing Informatics events. She has also been a frequent speaker at conferences hosted by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).
Kimmel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and health sciences from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree in health administration from Duke University.
“I am very much looking forward to working with HCD customers to better understand the business and financial challenges they face, and eager to share my knowledge of how business intelligence and analytics can be used as an asset,” Kimmel said. “I share the company’s commitment to helping hospitals and healthcare organizations improve patient care through effective business intelligence solutions, and know that, with all of us working together, we can make a positive impact on healthcare management.”
