Health Plans 4 Less™: How Does Obama Care Health Care Reform Affect Me? Many Americans are Still Asking This Question
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- Now that the state health care insurance exchanges are open, the number of calls and visits to web sites are now beginning. Not only are citizens inquiring about coverage and costs, many are asking for an explanation of what Obamacare means to them.
HEALTH PLANS 4 LESS™, is an expert on The Patient Portability and Affordable Care Act, sometime shortened to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and often called Obamacare. The law will make coverage available to tens of millions of Americans who are without health insurance. It does this by creating state health care insurance exchanges that allow consumers to buy health insurance plans. Another way it helps to cover Americans is by expanding Medicaid. For those who choose not to comply with the new law, to have insurance, there is a penalty collected by the IRS. This is the mandate. In the first year, the penalty may be smaller, but becomes larger and more punitive with each passing year. However, the ACA plans do have some enhanced features. Insurance companies must give coverage to all people with pre-existing conditions and cannot charge someone a higher premium just because they do have a pre-existing condition. There are no annual out of pocket limits on how much insurance will pay on an insured's behalf. Children up to age 26 may stay on their parent's policy. Many preventive and screening tests are now covered from the first dollar. This means there is no cost to you at all for annual screening. If you make less than 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Guideline, you may be eligible to have the government subsidize your premium.
Obamacare’s original goal was to make health insurance available to millions of Americans at affordable costs; however it appears that the premiums will be much higher than originally hoped for. The government may help subsidize a person’s insurance premiums, depending on income.
If you work for a company with more than 50 employees the changes in the law will not go into effect until January 1, 2015.
Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees are not required by the new ACA law to offer a small group health plan; however, many will choose do so anyway. The small businesses that choose to offer small group coverage may be eligible to receive tax credits if they do so.
Individuals who are not covered by an employer plan can buy insurance on their own. If qualified, they will receive subsidies.
