Healthline Partners with COPD Foundation to Launch Inspirational Stories Project
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 18, 2014 -- Healthline announced the launch of an inspirational stories project today, “You Are Not Your COPD,” in conjunction with the COPD Foundation to provide support and encouragement to those living with COPD. The project encourages individuals living with COPD to upload a photo of themselves together with a message letting the world know they are not defined by their disease. The stories will be posted on Healthline.com and will be shared on Healthline's Facebook page, Living with COPD.
Healthline will donate $10 to the COPD Foundation for every submission, with a goal of donating $5,000 total. People are encouraged to browse and share the submitted photos—Healthline’s editorial team will choose a winner from the top five most shared entries to win a $75 American Express gift card.
"People living with COPD need understanding and support," said John W. Walsh, president and co-founder of the COPD Foundation. "Healthline's project encourages the entire COPD community to get involved, from the newly diagnosed to the patient who has been living with COPD for years. We believe it will be inspirational, informative, and engaging."
COPD, a condition that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. More than 24 million Americans have COPD, and researchers believe half of those people—12 million—remain undiagnosed.
“So many people living with COPD are anxious and unsure of the future,” said Tracy Rosecrans, Vice President of Marketing for the Healthline Media Group. "This initiative is meant to provide them with some hope and a strong sense of community. Individuals can learn to not let their condition define them and live life to the fullest by reading these inspirational stories written by others living with COPD."
Anyone can submit a “You Are Not Your COPD” message. To participate, download a placard at "You Are Not Your COPD.” Take a picture of yourself holding the card, and write a couple of sentences about why COPD doesn't define you.
“Tell us who you are and what you like to do,” Rosecrans advises. “Are you a mother? An artist? Describe what you've been able to accomplish while living with COPD.”
