HealthTech Reporting Chief Technology Officer Rose Toonen Announces First Online Mental Health Data Collection Repository for MHSA (Prop 63) Funded Programs
Stockton, California (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- Rose Toonen, Chief Technology Officer of HealthTech Reporting, the developer of the California Mental Health Data Collection Repository (CMHDCR), announced today the launch of the final build-out phase of California’s first online portal to collect mental health data. To complete efforts, a crowdfunding campaign is underway for the fifth and final stage. The Repository serves a purpose for all Californians assuring that Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63) tax dollars are put to use as intended. The goal is not only to provide quarterly and annual reports to state officials overseeing MHSA budgets, but to show taxpayers exactly how their money is being allocated. Increasing access to behavioral health data is just one step toward a statewide initiative to demonstrate to families, lawmakers, advocates, and taxpayers, MHSA funded programs are in fact having an impact on California’s ability to improve its mental health system, and mental health service delivery, for the better.
HealthTech Reporting CTO Toonen states, “We are hoping to collaborate with county behavioral health departments to help us achieve our objective in providing assurance to the general public that their hard earned money is indeed going toward those in need of mental health services. Another element of our strategy is public participation and support of this project in furthering our efforts to collect necessary data showing how and where Prop 63 funds are allocated and spent.”
The Repository was designed for county staff, hired consultants, and Full Service Partnership (FSP) employees tracking data specifically for MHSA funded programs. While collected datasets are accessible to state employees for review, a significant portion is compiled in reports and made available on the CMHDCR website for the general public. Upon project start-up, all reports will be available on an ongoing basis beginning March 1, 2016, with statistical reports available in the following year.
A significant inspiration for the creation of the CMHDCR website was the Little Hoover Commission report, “Promises Still to Keep: A Decade of the Mental Health Services Act,” produced in January 2015. An opening comment states, ‘A landmark mental health ballot initiative that promised additional help for the severely mentally ill and bold new programs to emphasize prevention and early intervention.’ HealthTech Reporting shares the majority opinion of the report and hopes to provide a resolution to this decade old discussion.
