Healthy Breathing Habits Workshop for Children
San Rafael, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- Breathing Retraining Center is holding a workshop on how to support children with dysfunctional breathing with games and common-sense lifestyle changes.
"Parents don't think too much about their children's breathing unless there is an issue, such as asthma, allergies, or breathlessness especially during sports or playing music," said Breathing Educator Lisa Bowen, who is leading the class.
"When there's a need, it makes good sense to learn about the respiratory system and how to strengthen it," she said.
The two-hour Introduction To Healthy Breathing Habits for Kids will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 2nd at Breathing Retraining Center's San Rafael office.
Bowen has synthesized 12 habits to encourage healthy breathing in children. The one with the most impact is full-time nasal breathing, she said. One way to progressively train kids to stop mouth breathing is to have them do an activity with water in their mouth so they have to breathe through their nose.
Another fun breathing-related activity is blowing bubbles because it slows breathing down when kids get over-stimulated and encourages relaxation, Bowen said.
Cost is $25 in advance; $40 at the door.

Bowen is not licensed by the State of California as a healing-arts practitioner. She is a certified massage practitioner and breathing educator trained under the Buteyko Breathing Educators Association.
