Heat Advisory: Take Care of Your Windshield with These Crucial Tips
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 20, 2015 -- We are now at the height of summer, with temperatures soaring into the 80s and 90s daily. In light of the heat, the Auto Glass Safety Council TM (AGSC) and its local member All Star Glass advise you to take specific steps to care for your vehicle—and especially the windshield—amid these harsh summer temperatures.
Here are a few tips:
1. Watch out for chips and cracks in the glass. Very high temperatures can cause a chip or crack in your windshield to spread quickly. If you spot a chip or a crack in the glass, you may want to contact All Star Glass to find out if it can be repaired to lessen the chances of further spreading.
2. Be cautious of the temperature if you do need a windshield replacement. Many urethanes (the substance used to bond a windshield to the vehicle) can only be used under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. Be sure to check with the technician doing the work to make sure that the urethane being used is appropriate for the hot weather, or find out if there is an indoor location at which the work can be completed.
3. Use an Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) - Registered Member Company for the replacement of your windshield. AGSC Registered Member Companies have agreed to comply with the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard TM (AGRSS), which addresses proper procedures, education and product performance. Companies that register with the AGSC agree to undergo random, on-site third-party audits at least once every four years.
The Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) is the not-for-profit organization dedicated to the safe replacement of auto glass. The AGSC was founded and is supported by companies in the auto glass replacement industry that keep safe installation as their primary goal and is an accredited American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards development organization. It has developed North America’s only auto glass replacement standard, the AGRSSTM Standard (ANSI/AGSC/AGRSSTM 003-2015 Automotive Glass Replacement Safety Standard), which addresses procedures, education and product performance.
