HelioCampus Explores Impact of Data Analytics in Higher Education at EDUCAUSE 2017 Annual Conference
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) October 09, 2017 -- HelioCampus, a platform-as-a-service that combines technology with ongoing professional services, will explore the impact of data analytics in higher education during conference sessions at the EDUCAUSE 2017 Annual Conference. EDUCAUSE is a higher education IT association and will host their Annual Conference on October 31st through November 3rd in Philadelphia.
Analytics use is on the rise in higher education. Nearly 50 percent of institutions consider institutional analytics a “major institutional priority,” and another 25 percent say it’s a “major priority for some departments,” according to a report by the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) and Gartner. The report also concludes institutions will invest in technologies including business performance analytics and learning analytics over the next five years. Despite this investment, there are still challenges in getting value out of institutional data. A recent KPMG survey indicates only 29% of institutions have sufficient data and know how to analyze and deploy it. These gaps in knowledge, usage and deployment continue to stall the adoption of this technology.
HelioCampus will moderate a panel of higher education leaders including Steven Hopper, Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, UNC-General Administration, Justin Sloan, VP Institutional Effectiveness & Planning, Chief Data Officer, St. Edward’s University, David Weil, Associate Vice President and CIO, Ithaca College and Michael Cipriano, Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO, UMass Lowell. The session, CIO Perspectives on Charting the Path to Institutional Analytics: Business Problems, Decision Processes, and Lessons Learned, will share best practices on navigating an institutional analytics purchase decision. Whether institutions are just getting started with analytics, looking to extend existing investments, or broadening data visualization and data science services, this session will feature CIOs who have recently completed a thorough due diligence process and discuss their decision-making, results and lessons learned.
HelioCampus will participate in a second session, Analyzing the Full Student Experience: The Powerful Intersection between Curricular, Co-Curricular and Student Life Data, which brings together Justin Sloan, VP Institutional Effectiveness & Planning, Chief Data Officer, St. Edward’s University, Craig Rudick, Ph.D., Executive Director of Institutional Research and Lead Data Scientist, University of Kentucky, Cam Johnson, Manager, Operations Center, UNLV, Matthew Bernacki, Ph.D., Professor, Educational Psychology & Higher Education, UNLV and Rich Seidner, Business Development, Splunk. This panel will explore how it is possible to build a data infrastructure that combines structured (e.g., admissions, enrollment, financial aid) and unstructured (e.g., wi-fi library, LMS logins, mobile, card swipes) data for greater visibility into curricular, co-curricular and student life experiences and outcomes.
“If your institution is considering an investment in institutional analytics or looking to get more value out of all the data across the institution, you will want to attend these sessions,” said HelioCampus CEO, Darren Catalano. “Attendees of both sessions will leave with an appreciation of the benefits, level of effort and resources required to effectively implement institutional analytics.”
