Help Fight the Barrage of Cyber Attacks; Register for the NCL by Oct. 3
Largo, Maryland (PRWEB) September 29, 2015 -- From OPM to retail stores, no one is safe from cyber attacks. And it’s not going away. To combat this ceaseless problem, the National Cyber League (NCL) is helping prepare the next generation of defenders. The deadline to sign up for the NCL’s fall season is Oct. 3.
Undergraduate and graduate students at two- and four-year colleges and universities can sign up to participate in virtual security competitions run by the NCL. Students with varying skill levels in cybersecurity, IT, computer science, networking, and network/systems administration are eligible.
“The NCL gave our students the opportunity to experience hands-on practice with security-related topics, which directly related to my classroom lessons,” said Bela Erdelyi, instructor at Brookdale Community College. “Participating students were excited throughout the entire NCL process. Teaming up with students from other educational communities during post-season further enhanced my student’s experience.”
One of the distinguishing factors of the NCL is the integration of learning objectives in all its activities. Custom hands-on lab exercises, based on industry-recognized competencies, are available 24/7 in the NCL virtual Gymnasiums. Players use the “gym” to develop knowledge and skills before demonstrating these newly acquired skills in competitive individual and team play.
NCL measures each participant’s game performance and produces individualized Scouting Reports. These reports focus on respective strengths and weakness among various learning objective that include: Open Source Intelligence, Network Traffic Analysis, Log Analysis, Scanning and Reconnaissance, Wireless Access Exploitation, Cryptography, Password Cracking, Web Application Exploitation, and Enumeration and Exploitation.
The NCL season is designed with college faculty in mind. Instructors can freely access available resources such as syllabi, recommended textbooks, lab exercises, and video tutorials for inclusion of the NCL into the classroom.
