Herbal Cocktails From On-Site Organic Botanical Garden Offered at Casa Velas

Using everything from home-grown mint for Mojitos, to Cilantro for Margaritas and even Hibiscus flowers to make Martinis, herbal cocktails at Casa Velas are fresh and popular treats for hotel guests that are part of the all-inclusive rate. Herbs from the botanical garden including clove, mint, aloe vera, spearmint, and basil leaves are also used in spa treatments, while the kitchen often uses home-grown albacar, thyme, mint, lemon and cactus in its fresh culinary creations.

CILANTRO MARGARITA
Ingredients:
· 1.5 Ounce Tequila
· 1 Ounce Triple Sec or Cointreau
· 3 Ounce Lime or Lemon Zest
· Salt
· Small Bunch of Cilantro from Garden
Preparation:
Place three to four ice cubes in a cocktail shaker along with two parts tequila, one part Triple Sec, one part lime zest and the cilantro. Shake until frosty. Place the cilantro in a cocktail glass rimmed with lime and salt until half full. Top with the margarita mixture and decorate with a slice of lime and a short straw.
*Rim the glass with salt, pour salt on a flat plate, cover the edge of the glass with lime and place it in the salt.
LEMON REFRESHER
Ingredients:
· 0.5 Ounce of Lemon Juice from Garden
· 0.5 Ounce of Mineral Water
· 2 Ounces of Midori
· 10 Ice Cubes
· Sugar or Other Sweetener
Preparation:
Blend all of the ingredients until they become like sorbet. Serve in a fluted glass with a slice of lemon.
BASIL AND MINT MARTINI
Ingredients:
· 2 Leaves of Basil
· 4 Small Leaves of Mint
· 1 Ounce of Vodka
· 5 Drops of Sweet Cinzano Vermouth
· Lime Juice
· Sugar Cane Liquor or Regular Sugar
Preparation:
Add basil leaves, mint leaves, vodka and Vermouth to a martini shaker with ice and mix all together. Add a splash of lime juice, as well as sugar cane liquor to your taste or a tea spoon of regular sugar if preferred.
