Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 20, 2015 -- Heroes in Recovery, a movement celebrating the heroic efforts of those who seek addiction and mental health treatment, returns to the Atlanta area, for the fourth straight year for one of its family-friendly 6K Run/Walk events. The goal of the race is to garner support for people in recovery and to educate the community at large about addiction and behavioral health issues. The Heroes movement was ignited by Foundations Recovery Network (FRN), a family of treatment centers that includes outpatient facilities in Roswell and Downtown Atlanta.
The Heroes in Recovery 6K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 am in Brook Run Park in Dunwoody. The race starts and finishes near Pavilion drive and takes participants on a scenic 6K (3.728 mile) looping course through the park. All Registered participants will each receive a gender specific technical t-shirt and finisher’s medal. This is a family friendly event and will include post-race nutrition, entertainment and prize raffle for race participants and spectators.
The race includes cash prizes totaling $1,500.00 to be presented to the top four males and females in the Overall and Masters Overall age division. Additional awards will be presented to the top four males and females for age group division, and the fourth place finishers will be recognized with the unique distinction of ‘Almost Podium’.
The charity beneficiary for this race is MARR’s Right Side Up (RSU), which offers long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment for women with dependent children under the age of 13. Women need a safe, structured environment to develop the skills necessary to achieve lasting recovery. RSU’s services are designed to help clients obtain employment, restore relationships with their loved ones, retain and/or regain custody of their children, give birth to drug-free infants and become valuable, productive members of the community.
This Heroes in Recovery event marks the 20th in a series of 6k races that are held across the country to raise awareness and break the stigma associated with addiction treatment, mental health needs and recovery. Early registration for all races is $25, regular registration is $30 increasing to $35, and day-of-race fees are $40.
