Heroin Deaths in Orange County Florida Rose 40% in 2014
(PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- The country is seeing increased usage of the illicit substance, and Florida is no exception to that precedent. The Orlando Sentinel released an article December 15th confirming the rise in heroin related deaths in orange county. Heroin related deaths have increased by 40% in Orange County. The Miami-Dade area suffered 36 overdose deaths. Harbor Village Florida is one of many residential drug and alcohol treatment centers that specializes in treating drug addiction. The facility is dedicated to providing a safe environment to ensure the full recovery of its clients.
The Orlando Sentinel quotes an official of Orange County, warning residents of “ a killer that is taking the lives of dozen of central Florida residents: illegal drug use,” Jerry Demings, the sheriff of orange County says, “heroin use is up and it’s killing Central Florida residents.”
The residential drug and alcohol treatment centers in Florida are experiencing an increased number of admitted heroin users. Namely, Harbor Village Florida is seeing a rise in opiate addicted patients. Although, its clients often use a combination of drugs ranging from opiates to benzos, and alcohol. Its medical staff has recently earned accreditation by The Joint Commission. The center is concerned about the heightened heroin deaths in Florida.
Harbor Village Florida employs outreach campaigns to encourage addicts to check themselves into inpatient rehabilitation therapy, but the increasing number of heroin related deaths may be a sign that efforts statewide need to be increased. A member of their medical staff said, “We see a regular number of patients suffering from heroin addiction- and we see addicts on the streets who aren’t receiving any treatment at all. It’s heart wrenching.” Some at the center feel that prevention education is the best way to combat the rising death toll. A staff member comments, "If we were stressing drug prevention education, there would be considerably less drug users, and therefore, less deaths. But this doesn't seem to be the direction our government officials are focused on right now."
Located in southern Florida, Harbor Village Florida provides a safe and fulfilling inpatient drug rehabilitation center. Drug addicts are welcomed with open arms from the moment they arrive, and are encouraged to take advantage of the luxury amenities found at the facility; which include spa getaways, private bedrooms, and leisure rooms.
