HifiPix Brings On-Demand Resolution to Social Media Sites and Webpages
Colorado Springs, Colorado (PRWEB) March 09, 2015 -- HifiPix, Inc. today announced a patented new technology that lets low quality internet images blossom into multiple levels of much higher quality with on-demand resolution when viewed with the free HifiPix Viewer application. While the Viewer already expands typical internet images to fill the screen (currently on Windows devices), this much larger and more immersive format can also reveal the lack of quality in those images. The new imaging technology involves adding a new type of hyperlink called a “draglink” to the comments of social media images, such as those on Facebook, or embedding the draglink right into the URL of website images. When such a draglink or image is dragged and dropped into the Viewer it points to the location of extra resolution data files that the Viewer automatically integrates into the image to achieve the quality level requested by the user. These extra resolution files can be hosted either on licensed websites or on a HifiPix server account.
“The optimum resolution and quality of today’s hosted internet images are complicated by many factors including different display device resolutions, increasing resolution of camera images, limited bandwidth and even the growing desire by people to zoom into images for more detail,” said Shawn Kelly, HifiPix CEO. “Our goal is to give people the option to see content with as much resolution as they want or need for any given situation while dramatically simplifying the hosting of that content. Right now, content providers must try to anticipate what users want by providing several to even a dozen or more different resolutions of the same image. Our new technology changes this paradigm by providing a single “base” image and a series of resolution data files that the Viewer uses to incrementally upconvert the image to multiple levels of higher resolution. And the total size of all those base and component files is equal to or often less than that of the single, high resolution image. So now content providers no longer have to provide lots of images or guess what people want and people can now increase the resolution of internet images whenever they'd like to without having to download entire new image files.”
The patented technology is integrated into the free HifiPix Viewer application, which provides for the collection of internet images with easy presentation in full-screen mode, as well as the HifiPix Creator application, which converts original high resolution photographs into the component files for on-demand resolution downloading and publishes these files to either a HifiPix hosting account or to the content provider’s web domain.
“The great thing about this approach is that the simple connection between the Viewer and the on-demand resolution files is just the draglink,” continued Kelly. "Some social media sites such as Facebook force image uploading to only one or two quality and resolution settings. Now when you post an image to your Facebook page you can just include the draglink in the comments, letting people know that they can drop that draglink into their Viewer for a number of high quality resolution levels, even up to 4K or Ultra HD if that level of detail was in the original image.”
