High School Senior Binge Drinking a Growing National Epidemic
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- As reported by ScienceDaily on 9/16 in their news article titled, Binge Drinking: Five or More Drinks Common for High School Seniors, Some Drink More, that Megan E. Patrick, Ph.D. of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and colleagues conducted research involving 16,332 high school seniors to study how common binge drinking (five or more drinks) and extreme binge drinking of 15 or more drinks was with this particular group. It is generally agreed that a drink is 12 ounces of beer, four ounces of wine, a 12-ounce wine cooler, a mixed drink or a shot glass of liquor. It was found that 20.2% of seniors reported binge drinking (five or more drinks in a row) in the past two weeks, while 10.5% had consumed 10 or more drinks and 5.6% consumed 15 or more drinks.
The survey used a nationally representative sample, which consisted of 52.3% female, 64.5% white, 11% black, 13.1% Hispanic and 11.5% of other race/ethnicity.
