High School Seniors Get Head Start through Internship Program at Silverado Memory Care Community
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 06, 2014 -- Every Monday through Friday morning at Silverado Valley Ranch, an assisted living community for those with memory impairments, about 10 high school seniors from Singley Academy in Irving arrive for a unique education experience that takes them out of the classroom and into the real world.
The students – each interested in pursuing a career in the field of care for the elderly – get an opportunity to learn first-hand about the industry as they lead engagement activities and follow in the footsteps of Silverado’s world-class caregiving, nursing and culinary teams.
“The residents at Silverado surprise me every day, reaffirming my passion for pursing a career in this industry,” shares Student Nicholas Redepenning. “I feel that my experience working with professionals at Silverado is truly setting me up for success as I prepare for college.”
About 20 students are accepted to the internship program each year, breaking into smaller groups during their visits to give them a more personalized experience and more one-on-one time with the Silverado staff and residents. The program is unique in that most internships of its caliber are designed for college students – truly giving these high school seniors a head start in planning their careers.
“Silverado specializes in memory care, and we’re excited for the opportunity to share our knowledge with the next generation of caregivers, nurses and doctors,” shares Silverado Administrator Brad Watson. “It’s inspiring to see the passion these young people have in caring for our residents.”
The partnership between Singley Academy and Silverado, now in its third year, has paved the way for more than 50 students since it began.
Silverado Valley Ranch is located at 8855 West Valley Ranch Parkway Irving, TX 75063. For more information about the community, please visit: silveradocare.com/ValleyRanch.
