Hike2Heal and Rethink Church Raise Funds To Provide Healthcare for Ugandan Children with 3rd Annual Raise the Roof 5K on April 18
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (PRWEB) March 30, 2015 -- Join local United Methodists as they Rethink Church during the third annual Hike2Heal 5k to raise funds to provide healthcare for the 512 students at Raise the Roof Academy in Uganda. Hike2Heal will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 9 a.m. at Edwin Warner Park at shelter No. 9 on 86 Vaughn Road in Nashville.
Raise the Roof Academy in Bwasandeku, Uganda, is located in an area without reliable medical care. The nearest clinic is a three-hour walk. The most prevalent illnesses include malaria, respiratory infections, skin infections, HIV/AIDS and more. With participants’ help, Raise the Roof would like to build a clinic on school grounds to offer healthcare for the 512 students who attend the academy. Donations will be used to provide immunizations, antimalarial treatment and preventive treatment to protect these impoverished children.
“Hike2Heal, in collaboration with Rethink Church, will make healing possible for those near and far. Hike2Heal is a team of people who have come together outside the walls of the church, and are gathering together in community around the interest of health to impact our greater communities, locally and globally,” said Marlene Ssebulime, Executive Director of Raise the Roof, Inc. “As participants of Hike2Heal, we will make space to forge relationships with one another for an incredible benefit. Let's hike together to give better health for the children at Raise the Roof Academy!”
This family-friendly event will include entertainment, music, food and a dog show. On the path, there will be storyboards describing a day in the life of a child at Raise the Roof Academy.
Register at Raise the Roof, Inc. Tax-deductible early-bird registration is $25. Children 12 and under run free. Walk-up registration and check-in day of the event will be from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented to the fastest male and female runners in their age categories. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the top team fundraisers.
Hike2Heal is funded in part by a special grant from The United Methodist Church and its Rethink Church initiative as a way to give citizens a chance to make a difference in the world. However, participants do not have to be affiliated with The United Methodist Church – or any church – to participate.
Locally, the event is organized by members of the following United Methodist churches: Blakemore, Christ, St. John’s, Calvary, Belle Meade, Brentwood, City Road, Grace, and Liberty.
