Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) October 12, 2015 -- Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is proud to announce the dedication of the recently restored bronze relief Akiba Sculpture by internationally renowned artist Albert Wein. First erected at Temple Akiba, Culver City in 1963, Wein’s sculpture is a 24-foot bronze relief designed to express light, hope, freedom and peace. Akiba Sculpture joins several other Wein pieces on the grounds of Hillside, including the Shin door handles at the entrance on the administration building, the Emunah centerpiece to the fountain in the Court of Faith, and the adorning sculptures above two prominent sarcophagi in the Garden of Memories.
Temple Akiba graciously donated the 50-year-old sculpture to Hillside prior to their synagogue renovation and Hillside staff worked alongside Williams Art Conservation, Inc. during the restoration process. Hillside is honored to have ensured the restoration of Wein’s beautiful work of art and rejoices in providing it with a new home in our park. Visitors can see Akiba Sculpture above the south-facing doors of the Courts of the Book.
Please join Hillside and the congregation of Temple Akiba for the dedication on October 20th at 5:00 p.m. Rabbi Zach Shapiro, Senior Rabbi for Temple Akiba, will be officiating the ceremony.
Throughout his career, Albert Wein completed commissions for the Bronx Zoo, the Libby Dam bas-relief project, the Steuben Glass Co., and the Brookgreen Gardens, which features the world’s largest sculpture garden. Wein has been recognized with a Tiffany Foundation Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation grant, and the coveted Prix de Rome, which has been likened to the Nobel Prize in the arts. In 1979, he was elected a full Academician of the National Academy of Design.
