Hilo Triathlon Kicks Up Its Heels A Second Time; Early Bird Registration Available Online Now.
Hilo, Hawaii (PRWEB) April 20, 2015 -- Early registration is open for the 2nd Annual Hilo Triathlon, so hurry and secure your space at the start line. Returning to James Kealoha Beach Park on July 12, 2015, the Olympic-distance race is limited to 500 participants (actually there’s only 499 spots since Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi has already secured his spot).
Now thru April 30, the entry fee is only $150 for individuals and $75 for relay team members; after May 1st, the fee goes up to $200 and $100, respectively. Registration closes 12am on July 2nd. For more information and registration, visit HiloTriathlon.org. Athletes from as far away as Australia participated in last year’s inaugural event, which again features a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, and a 10km run.
“Last year was phenomenal," said race director and longtime resident Joe Wedemann. “Our first place winner completed the course in under two hours and we had more than 330 entrants from around the world for our inaugural event.”
Wedemann, a Hawai`i County fireman, is also president of the Big Island International Marathon Association. In 1999, Wedemann launched the popular “Decimal Man Race,” which still endures to this day.
Wedemann continues to extend a huge mahalo to Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi for helping get the race off of the ground: “Not only is Mayor Kenoi committed to helping Big Island residents live a healthier lifestyle, he moved this years Mayor’s Cup Race to another date so that he could participate in the Hilo Triathlon!”
