Historic Back-to-Back U.S. Open Championships Hosted by Pinehurst Resort Featured on the Cover of the 2014 North Carolina Travel Guide
Southern Pines, NC (PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- The North Carolina Division of Travel and Tourism to announced that the Pinehurst Resort and the first-ever back to back U.S. Open and Women’s Open Championships will be featured on the cover of the 2014 North Carolina Travel Guide. http://www.visitnc.com. Pinehurst No. 2, recently renovated by the firm of Core and Crenshaw, will be the stage for the championships. The course harkens back to its original design by Donald Ross. A little background. The U.S. Open is one of golf’s four major men's championships, along with the Masters, British Open, and the PGA Championship. The 2014 U.S. Open will be the 114th playing of the national championship, and the first time the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open (also a major) are played on the same course in consecutive weeks.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) conducts the U.S. Open. In addition to conducting the championships, the USGA is the governing body of golf for the United States and Mexico. The USGA administers the Rules of Golf and Equipment Standards, promotes sustainable practice through the Green Sections, and oversees the USGA Handicap System. http://www.usga.org
