Historical and Current Research Points to Importance of Breast Self-Exams
SARASOTA, Fla. (PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- The Circuelle Foundation compiled and released independent research results from leading academic institutions uncovering the importance of breast self-exams (BSE). The historical events and opinions surrounding the need for breast self-exams is contradictory and can be confusing at best, but there is proof today for keeping this healthy ritual.

Despite the amount of confusing information surrounding breast self-examination and mammogram screening, reassuring data from highly reputable academic research reveals not only the benefits of, but also the importance of BSE:
• 46% of breast cancers diagnosed were first found during a breast self-examination (Duke University)
• 71% of breast cancers detected in younger women (< 40 years old) were first detected by breast self examination (Harvard University)
• In a study of 782 women under the age of 50, the Mayo Clinic found that these women were more likely to find a lump from breast self-examination than those detected through mammogram screening
