Historical Fiction by Author Jill Huckelberry Explores Homosexuality, Religion and Love
Saint Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- What if Eve’s ‘forbidden fruit’ in the Garden of Eden was really the temptation of another woman?
When Eve falls in love with Lilith, Adam’s first wife, they are cursed by God due to their forbidden love. As punishment, they are doomed to meet and fall in love lifetime after lifetime, only to be torn apart again and again. In Jill Huckelberry’s new novel “Finding Eve”, they are reincarnated during the French Revolution as Katherine and Anna. They fall in love and must overcome arranged marriage, a serial killer and other challenges as they fight to uncover their true destiny and break God’s curse.
Exploring themes such as homosexuality and religion, the book tackles the conflicting ideas of religious dogma.
“The book offers a glimpse into the struggle that most gays have with religion,” says Huckelberry. “So many young people are taking their own lives because of the influence of religion in their upbringing and it needs to be known that being gay is ok.”
Huckelberry, who is a lesbian that was raised in a Southern Baptist family, overcame her own struggle with religion to eventually accept who she was and what she believes.
“I couldn’t believe that a benevolent God would make me gay and then punish me for it,” says Huckelberry. “I have found my God in nature as an adult, which is more spiritual than religious.”
It is Huckelberry’s hope that the book ignites conversation on the upbringing of young gays and their struggle with religion due to the belief that homosexuality is a sin.
“I know from personal experience that forcing religion on youth can have a seriously negative effect on how one perceives themselves,” says Huckelberry. “We need to change the way homosexuality is perceived, even in today’s progressive culture.”
