Hit A&E TV Show Longmire Returns to Shoot Third Season at SFUAD’s Garson Studios
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- The hit A&E network drama Longmire will return to Garson Studios on the campus of Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) and begin filming its third season this spring. Episodes will be shot at Garson Studios and around northern New Mexico. The production also uses various campus locations for its episodes and often invites the campus community to open casting calls.
Based on the bestselling novels by Craig Johnson, the contemporary crime thriller follows the steady and sturdy Sheriff Walt Longmire as he solves crime and keeps the peace under the open skies of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Produced by The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Horizon Television, the series stars Robert Taylor (The Matrix), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns), Bailey Chase (Damages), Cassidy Freeman (Smallville) and Adam Bartley. Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny are the executive producers of Longmire; Oscar® and Emmy® winner Chris Donahue (Trust Me, State of Mind) and Patrick McKee (Nick/Tuck, Northern Exposure) are producers.

The Longmire crew—of which about 90% are locals—typically consists of more than 100 people each season, in addition to day players and other necessary extras. Half a dozen SFUAD students interned with Longmire during its second season, with several others serving as day players and background actors.
“We are beyond thrilled to have Longmire back on campus at Garson Studios for a third season,” said Paula Amanda, director of Garson Studios and associate chair of The Film School at SFUAD. “To have this popular TV show on a university campus is such a great, unique setup for our students and for the production. The cast and crew have been very accommodating to our students and are eager to mentor them as much as possible.”
The production again plans to hire paid interns from the student body to serve in various capacities for its third season—ranging from positions with the production, wardrobe, camera and electrical departments.
