Hixny Reaches Nationwide Interoperability
Albany, NY (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- Capital Region and Northern New York providers and healthcare professionals participating in Hixny can now connect with other providers throughout the United States who are treating their patients. Hixny became the tenth Health Internet Service Provider (HISP) to achieve this nationwide connectivity through the DirectTrust Bundle. This connectivity enables healthcare professionals to send and receive electronic health records through secure and encrypted messaging, via Hixny’s Health Information Service Provider (HISP) capability.
“Having Hixny as a new member is an important step for DirectTrust's growing network,” said David C. Kibbe, MD, MBA, President and CEO of DirectTrust. “Hixny is a proven leader in provider adoption throughout the northeast and now, as a member of this nationwide trust anchor bundle, the patients in the Capital District and Northern New York have an additional direct connection to an ever-growing healthcare information network, which stretches from coast to coast.”
DirectTrust is an independent trade association created to establish and maintain a national Security and Trust Framework in support of Direct exchange of health information among treating providers. The Trust Framework is a set of national standards needed to be met in order to view, download, and transmit electronic health records as per Meaningful Use requirements.
“Hixny is proud to be a member of DirectTrust and early adopter of its growing trust community,” said Joel Ryba, Hixny COO. “Participation in the Trust Bundle eases connectivity for our providers to connect with other providers both down the street as well as across the country. This is particularly important for connecting across other Regional Health Information Organizations, Federal Agencies, such as VA hospitals, or State Agencies like mental health facilities; that routinely do business with our regional participant organizations.”
Hixny is currently is in the process of introducing its Secure Patient Portal, with the rollout set for early 2014. When the Secure Patient Portal is in place, this new connection to the DirectTrust Bundle will give the more than four thousand physician and healthcare providers and 1.55 million patients within Hixny’s 17-county service area, the ability to connect to other participating HISPs throughout the country.
In addition to this new national milestone, Hixny has also established similar connectivity with upstate New York RHIOs in Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse as well as outside of the state with Vermont to support patients who seek medical attention outside of their region.
