Hixny Welcomes First-Ever Telemedicine Member
Albany, New York (PRWEB) August 15, 2016 -- For the New York healthcare community, the addition of Hixny’s first-ever telemedicine member means more access to more data—and a link to a rapidly growing branch of medicine.
In the landmark move, Hixny recently connected Upstate Concierge Medicine, a Clifton Park-based provider of telemedicine services for New York and surrounding states. Telemedicine is defined as the remote delivery of healthcare services via telecom technology (e.g., over the internet or telephone), according to the American Telemedicine Association.
The field of telemedicine has made a growing impact on healthcare in recent years. According to an article in Modern Healthcare, Deloitte estimated that 75 million virtual visits would take place throughout North America in 2014. A survey by Towers Watson discovered that 37 percent of employers planned to offer their workers telemedicine consultations in 2015.
“Telemedicine truly has the power to transform healthcare when it is incorporated into the local healthcare community,” said Keith Algozzine, CEO of Upstate Concierge Medicine. “By connecting with Hixny, we can share our data and progress notes, other providers can see the care we’re providing, and the whole system becomes more collaborative and efficient.”
Upstate Concierge Medicine partners with more than 100 organizations across the Northeast including businesses, colleges and health care providers since its founding in 2014. Last October, the practice was awarded just the fifth Accreditation for Online Patient Consultations in the U.S. by the American Telemedicine Association.
Mark McKinney, CEO of Hixny, lauded the system-wide benefit of connecting telemedicine practices to Hixny. “It adds another source of data that, until recently, our participants didn’t have access to,” he said. “More and more people will be taking advantage of telemedicine in the future, so connecting these practices to Hixny gives our primary care providers more access to more data.”
In 2015, New York became the 22nd state to enact a telemedicine commercial reimbursement statute, requiring insurers to cover telemedicine services.
