HockeyTech to Relocate Canadian Headquarters to Waterloo, Ontario
Guelph, ON (PRWEB) April 20, 2015 -- HockeyTech, the worldwide leader in hockey-related technologies, analytics and information services, announced today that it will be relocating its Canadian operations to Waterloo, Ontario effective June 2015. The company’s current offices are in Guelph.
HockeyTech was founded in 2013 by Stu Siegel, technology entrepreneur and former Florida Panthers owner/CEO. The company has grown rapidly, and now has a staff of over fifty employees between its Canadian and US operations. The company has signed a long-term lease commitment at 180 Columbia Street West to occupy a full floor of approximately 11,000 SF. The building is part of the new Waterloo Innovation Network, housed in a former BlackBerry building.
“As a fast growing technology company, we have been highly impressed with the technology-centric ecosystem of Waterloo Region”, says HockeyTech CEO Stu Siegel. “Being located in the Silicon Valley of Canada provides us access to incredible human resources and technology infrastructure, both of which are vital to our aggressive growth plans.”
HockeyTech’s new offices will be adjacent to the University of Waterloo. The company has created a joint project with the university to do technology R&D at the Columbia Ice Fields arena. The first installation of its new HockeyTech Analytics system was recently installed at the arena. Details about this new project are to be unveiled at a press conference being held at the Columbia Ice Fields this Thursday, April 23rd, where invited media and dignitaries will have an opportunity to see the player and puck tracking system in action during a live on-ice demonstration.
In working through the process of relocating to Waterloo Region, HockeyTech reached out to a number of local organizations for guidance, including the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener, University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University, Communitech, and Canada’s Technology Triangle.
“Throughout HockeyTech’s process, we have been pleased to bring Team Waterloo Region together, offering guidance on the diverse aspects influencing HockeyTech’s decision to relocate to Waterloo Region,” says Jason Kipfer, Senior Business Development Officer with Canada’s Technology Triangle.
“We are very pleased to welcome HockeyTech to Waterloo Region”, says Iain Klugman, CEO of Communitech. "As the preeminent hockey analytics company in the world, HockeyTech is an exciting addition to the growing cluster of data-focused companies in the region, and we look forward to working with them to continue their remarkable growth.”
