Holiday Hunger Challenges Dallas Children; FEED 3 Needs Help Providing Food for Dallas School Children
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- During the holidays, while most dream of Santa, tens of thousands of children in the Greater Dallas area will be hungry because they will not be in school. More than 80% of the children in the DISD depend on the school lunch program to provide their best meal of the day. For too many children, no school time means it is time for hunger. In response to this need, Feed3 has developed a practical campaign to that provides meals for kids in need and offers creative ways that others can donate and help make a difference.

FEED 3 is a joint project with the Dallas Hunger Solutions Coalition and partners with the Texas Hunger Initiatives to end the hunger crisis in North Texas and address the needs of those in greatest need: school children. FEED 3 is a grassroots campaign that meets the need of children with weekend food backpacks, food pantries in schools, industrial kitchen that provide hot meals after school, volunteer run programs to assist families with hunger and nutritional challenges.
In the Greater Dallas area, more than 280,000 children who deal with food insecurity live in the southern sector of the city. The majority of these school age children cope with hunger every day, especially during the holiday season. Unfortunately, the 2013 holiday season need is greater. Many food banks are dealing with 20% more requests and an unfortunate decline in donations. This means that overall there is less food for family’s distribution.
FEED 3 and the dedicated volunteers are actively providing food for the holidays to many children in need. But more support is needed to meet the demand within the community. FEED 3 has created a variety of ways that people can help impact more local children in the community by donating money, vehicles, electronic items, stocks and a variety of items, click here.
“Dallas should not be a place where children go hungry during the holidays, which is why we are doing coat drives and feeding children,” explains Skinner. “This year we served over 140,000 meals at over 25 locations, but we still have many more to reach. A simple donation can help make a huge difference this holiday season.”
