Hollaender’s® Speed-Rail® Handrail System Helps Charter School Make the Grade
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) May 18, 2015 -- Legacy Charter School of Greenville, South Carolina needed to replace their school gym railing system to meet code requirements. Working together with Freeman & Major Architects, also out of Greenville, the design team searched for a new cost-effective handrail system with glass infill panels that would also emulate the look and feel of the existing ball style railings that were already in place.
Hollaender’s® Speed-Rail® Railing Frame Design is specified by architects when an “Industrial” or “Warehouse” look is desired, or when they are trying to match an older style of railing system, as typified by this “ball style" railing is installed.
It is also an ideal solution when lead times are tight and the railing can be shipped as a “kit of parts” and assembled on site.
In the case of Legacy Charter School, Hollaender’s Speed-Rail fit the bill perfectly. A particular challenge however, was the timing of the decision. A major event was just a few weeks away, and the team wanted to have the rail itself in place prior to the event. With no time to completely fabricate the handrail system including infill panels to size, Hollaender worked together with Triangle Construction to ship the railing frame as a kit of parts that could be assembled on-site. Temporary plywood infill panels were cut as substitutes for the glass infill panels still in production, and painted the school colors. According to Mollie Pelletier, Designer at Freeman & Major, "We and the school are both very pleased with the Hollaender railing. With some creative problem solving, Hollaender and Triangle Construction were able to deliver and install an outstanding product with a very short deadline. It met our design objectives as well as the operational objective of being functional in time for a major school event."
