New York, NY (PRWEB) September 18, 2015 -- Singer songwriter and recording artist Holley McCreary has won the LAMA, Los Angeles Music Award for Female Singer Songwriter of the year. McCreary picked up her award on 17 September 2015 at the red carpet event held at the famous Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood. The highly respected award within the industry capped off an eventful week for the talented newcomer.
The Los Angeles Music Awards is an international competition and televised awards show, that for the last 25 years had helped to nourish and showcase some of the best up-and-coming musical acts from across the world.
Notable celebrities are involved with the event and often attend the famous red carpet event, which culminates the competition. Such well-known musical artists as Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Paula Abdul, and Slash have appeared on the red carpet in the past to congratulate the winners.
Holley McCreary's win as female singer songwriter of the year is an important achievement in her blossoming career, and is a sure sign that we will be hearing a lot more from Holley in the future.
Earlier this week it was also announced that Holley McCreary was declared a winner of the Unsigned Only music competition. The annual Unsigned Only music competition is offered to artists who are not signed to a major record label or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries or imprints, and aims to recognize the best up-and-coming musical artist from around the world. Holley McCreary took second place with her performance of the song “Drowning”. Judges included Robert Smith (The Cure), Sinead O’Connor, Dustin Lynch, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Aimee Mann, Colt Ford, Kool and the Gang, David Crowder, Anthony DeCurtis (a contributing editor at Rolling Stone), Frank Foster, Rapsody, Kelly Price, Kyle Anderson (a senior writer at Entertainment Weekly), plus many more. The song, which was written by Holley McCreary, John Kennedy and Karen Nussbaumer, competed with nearly 7,000 entries from over 100 different countries. This music competition has become an important milestone to achieve and has proven to be a jumping off point for many successful unsigned artists.
Winning both the LAMA award and the Unsigned Only music competition this week are remarkable achievements for the Birmingham native whose debut album, "Leave," was released by Sorella Entertainment to excellent reviews on February 1, 2015 (available on iTunes, Spotify and other digital outlets), after a battle with cancer motivated her to pursue her career with a vengeance.
After going through the ordeal of possibly losing her voice or even her life to thyroid cancer and overcoming it, Holley swore she would pursue her dreams without fail. She threw herself into her music full-time, with a determination to fulfill her lifelong dream of breaking into the charts. At the LAMA awards, Holley shared, "I'm so thankful to be here and to be able to accept this award. Cancer has a funny way of motivating people. After I was diagnosed, it was like an alarm when off inside of me and said 'Wake up!' And I did. I realized 'This is it!' You get one chance. I'm cancer free now and never take one second for granted." Holley promised herself she would share her message about the dangers of radiation-based diagnostic tests, which she believes caused her cancer. Holley is on a mission to change lives for the better through her music and by supporting educational outreach programs with organizations such as Radwell, which stands for Radiology Wellness – a New York based diagnostic testing center - that provides safe diagnostic tests that do not have harmful radiation.
Holley will release her second full length album in December 2015. We expect to hear many more good things about Holley McCreary and her career going forward. In the country music scene, she is a legitimate rising star. Here's to wishing Holley all the success in the world as she embarks on this next, exciting phase of her promising career. Congratulations, Holley!
