Homeland Grocery Stores “Get Healthy Challenge” Participants Lose 267 Pounds Over 16 Weeks
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- Homeland Grocery Stores is excited to announce their first ever Get Healthy Challenge $5,000 prize winner. Mr. Michael Harvey of Guthrie, OK was awarded $5,000 on Saturday January 25th for his weight loss efforts. Mike lost a total of 69 lbs and 21.25 inches. Collectively nine contestants finished the program and lost 267 lbs, 128.5 inches and reduced their total cholesterol by 117 points. The competition intentionally took place over the Holiday Season with a 90% success rate of the contestants losing or maintaining their weight.
The 16 week Homeland Get Healthy Challenge was a comprehensive, long-term commitment to provide customers with the education and resources they need to make sustainable, healthy decisions for both themselves and their families. The 2013 contest united community members as they worked together to reach their health goals during the 16 week challenge.
The challenge began on October 5th, 2013 with a two day Wellness Camp where the contestants received personalized instruction on cooking, meal planning, fitness and other behaviors needed to begin a healthy lifestyle. During Wellness Camp contestants also received a baseline health screening and education on key biometric numbers so they could track of their improvement. The challenge was sponsored by Kellogg’s Special K, Title Boxing Club, Marriott Waterford Hotel, and Advanced Body Scan. Homeland’s Registered Dietitian, Alyson Dykstra, developed the challenge and says she is “really excited to see the long-term impact this will have on our community.”
The ten contestants met with the Homeland Dietitian at their local store to apply their nutritional know-how and purchased healthy foods to restock their pantry. They also participated in weekly group workouts at Title Boxing Club in Edmond. After just two weeks of the challenge the participants had lost a total of 75 pounds and were well on their way to the 267 pound total loss.
The contestants competed in the Freeze Your Face Off 5K race on January 22nd where they ran alongside community members and demonstrated how far they had come in their commitment to better health.
