Honda and General Motors Team Up on Auto Technology
Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- When it comes to excitement about the auto industry, there are some diehard green drivers at Russ Darrow Honda that get excited with each announcement from the automaker that they're undertaking greener manufacturing methods or developing more environmentally-friendly vehicles. So, rest assured that there were some cheers when Honda announced that they would be partnering with General Motors to improve their fuel cell technology.
It might seem unusual for two competitors to work together on something like this, but the fact is that they both have realized that their best bet in making fuel cell vehicles like the Honda FCX Clarity into a common household vehicle is by advancing research and reducing costs, and that includes helping competitors like GM do the same thing.
The main goal of the partnership is for Honda and GM to develop a universal fuel cell design that can help reduce manufacturing and increase the number of hydrogen fuel stations available.
One of the biggest draws of vehicles like the FCX Clarity is that they are virtually emission-free, with the only waste products being water, but as of now, the options for green driving are far more limited.
Honda did recently increase production of the 2013 Fit EV, which is emission-free but requires charging. Though Honda does provide plenty of other options when it comes to alternative fuel vehicles, like
• Civic Natural Gas and Hybrid models
• CR-Z hybrid sports car
• Accord Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid
But with this partnership, Honda is shooting for a 2015 release of the FCX Clarity in the United States and Japan, and if they reach it, rest assured that there will be waves made in the auto market.
For now, though, drivers can enjoy great rates on leases of many alternative fuel options as well as financing as low as 0.9% APR thanks to the Honda Summer Clearance Event, going on now at Russ Darrow Honda.
