Hope For The Warriors to Host Military Caregiver Wellness Workshop
Lorton, VA (PRWEB) February 23, 2015 -- Hope For The Warriors® is pleased to announce its first Military Caregiver Wellness Workshop. The workshop is open to military caregivers of post-9/11 service members or veterans who have been physically or psychologically wounded. Hope For The Warriors® is a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
The one-day workshop will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will focus on self-care and mindfulness practices for military caregivers. Activities will include art therapy, applied theater, therapeutic yoga, and share time with other military caregivers. Caregivers can include spouses, parents, children, partners, siblings, and friends.
The luncheon speaker is Patti Katter, a military caregiver who specializes in helping military families who have suffered grief, challenges, and personal setbacks as a result of military war injuries. Katter brings experience as a military spouse whose husband was injured in combat. Katter founded two separate organizations to support military caregivers and is a contributing author to three books from Moody Publishing. She currently works with Hope For The Warriors® to support programming for military spouses and caregivers.
“Military caregivers so often take care of everyone but themselves, but you must take care of yourself in order to properly take care of others,” said Katter. “This is not only a quick respite for caregivers, it will also be packed with tips, collaboration, and resources these caregivers can take home with them to use on a daily basis, which is priceless.”
“We are excited to bring a wellness approach to this crucial population in support of the recovering warrior and his/her family,” said Dana Thompson, Regional Social Worker with Hope For The Warriors®. “We will be performing assessments to make sure that the workshops are effective in increasing a caregiver's self-care activities and decreasing their feelings of social isolation. We are hoping to rollout these workshops in other regions of the United States as well.”
