Hornet, the Gay Social Network, Polls Gays for Eurovision Predictions with Surprising Political Early Results
Vienna, Austria (PRWEB) May 21, 2015 -- Eurovision has been called “gay Christmas” and a must-see music event for much of Europe’s LGBT community, given the international singing competition’s over-the-top costumes, onstage mischief, and campy songs. In addition to sharing Eurovision’s fun with the rest of the globe, Hornet is aggregating member predictions to suggest a winner and an overall favorite performer. Gay fans follow Eurovision closely and Hornet will test its results against other sophisticated models that take into account the ‘transnational voting patterns which, for instance, means Greece and Cyprus nearly always give each other top marks’ as the Wall Street Journal reported when covering mathematician Martin O’Leary’s statistical models for predicting the winner. Most similar Eurovision internet user polls collect as few as 5,000 entries. Hornet — with its 6 million users and the huge following of gay Eurovision fans — believes it will have a more-informed, fun (if not more scientifically accurate) prediction of this year’s winner.

Just How Gay Is Eurovision?
Last year’s winner was Conchita Wurst, a talented pop artist and openly gay drag queen. Hers was a victory that cannot be understated for its significance given the large international viewership of Eurovision especially in Russia, whose government passed a national anti-gay law in 2013.
A 2011 research study called LGBT2020 from Out Now - the global gay and lesbian marketing and research company - revealed for the first time the impact of gays on Eurovision, examining the percentage of LGBT Eurovision fans in 19 diverse countries spread around the world.
It turns out that the most prolific winner — Ireland — has also had the largest percentage of LGBT viewers tuning in.
"There have long been inferences that gays and lesbians share an affinity with the camp pastiche that is the Eurovision Song Contest," says Ian Johnson, CEO of Out Now. "Now, with the release of this LGBT2020 research we now know to what extent local gay and lesbian communities feel an affinity with Eurovision. Interestingly, some countries not traditionally connected to Eurovision - such as Japan and Australia - have LGBT communities that are ardent supporters of this event."
Miscrosoft’s Bing is predicting is Måns Zelmerlöw of Sweden, Polina Gagarina of Russia, and Il Volo of Italy as the top choices, while Unicorn Booty is making an editorial cast toward Mans Zelmerlow of Sweden and Uzari & Maimuna of Belarus.
Hornet is predicting final winners:
1. Polina Garina “A Millsion Vocies” - Russia
2. Lisa Angell “N’oubliez pas” - France
3. Il Volvo “Grande Amore” - Italy
4. Måns Zelmerlöw “Heroes” - Sweden
This may be more interesting for social researchers and journalists following the large political implications of Eurovision than a true prediction. Based on a large distribution of users on Hornet one might predict an LGBT biased against certain countries, but gay Russians are voting for their home country without apology. Hornet wishes all the contestants success.
