Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester Honors Outstanding Supporters at “In Celebration” Gala
White Plains, NY (PRWEB) October 05, 2015 -- Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) recently hosted its 23rd annual “In Celebration” gala, honoring two outstanding individuals and one family for their commitment to furthering the nonprofit’s mission of striving to provide extraordinary and dignified comfort, care and compassion to individuals and families facing a serious or life-limiting illness.
The event, which was held at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., recognized Sheldon Alter, MD (WESTMed Medical Group), the Lee Family & Lee’s Funeral Home, L.L.C, and Connie A. Raffa, J.D., LL.M. (Partner, Arent Fox LLP) with a special tribute given to Anna L. Shereff, founder of The Anna and Louis H. Shereff Caregiver and Complementary Care Programs at HPCW. The honorees were recognized for their steadfast commitment and ongoing support of HPCW.
The “In Celebration” event co-chairs were James P. O’Toole, former Board Chair and event emcee, William F. Flooks, Jr., HPCW Board Chairman, and Michele Fraser Geller. O’Toole and Flooks thanked sponsors, contributors, guests and honorees for continuing to support HPCW’s programs and services. Mary K. Spengler, MS, executive director of HPCW, thanked staff and volunteers for their unwavering commitment to the organization’s patients and families. Spengler also gave special thanks to Anna L. Shereff and her family, who attended the event on Shereff’s behalf, for her years of support.
Westchester Deputy County Executive Kevin J. Plunkett presented the honorees with proclamations on behalf of Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino. In addition, Mayor Thomas Roach from White Plains applauded the honorees for their steadfast support of the organization and the community.
“While we can never thank our honorees enough for their commitment to our organization and our mission, it was our pleasure to celebrate them with this remarkable evening,” Spengler said.
Proceeds from the gala will support The Anna & Louis H. Shereff Caregiver and Complementary Care Programs. Complementary Care Programs include alternative therapies such as music therapy, art therapy and massage therapy, along with Reiki and reflexology, to those receiving hospice care. These complementary therapies can help to alleviate pain, stress and anxiety, and are offered to all HPCW patients free of charge due to the generosity and vision of Anna L. Shereff and supporters of “In Celebration”.
The grand sponsor for this year’s “In Celebration” event was Anna L. Shereff. Premier sponsors included Apple Bank for Savings; Arent Fox LLP/Attorneys at Law; The Hildegarde D. Becher Foundation, Inc.; Michele Fraser Geller; Grassy Sprain Pharmacy; Key Bank; VNS Westchester; White Plains Hospital; and White Plains Radiology Associates, P.C.
