Gainsville, FL (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- The chief financial officer of North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) drove drunk after a hospital celebration and crashed his car, according to police, reported The Gainesville Sun (7.3.13). Criminal defense attorney and DUI lawyer David Katz says that the incident shows how little alcohol it takes to go over the limit.
The CFO, Jay St. Pierre, said he had been at a celebration for the opening of a new wing at the hospital. He dropped off some friends at a restaurant and says he was driving toward home when the accident happened. Police say he drove off the road at a curve, going onto the curb and hitting a utility pole and two trees before partly flipping his car. He was not seriously injured reported The Gainesville Sun.
“This highlights how low the legal blood alcohol limit is, and how anyone can go over it with just a couple drinks,” said Katz, the founder of Katz & Phillips, PA.
As stated in The Gainesville Sun article, St. Pierre told police he'd had three drinks – a glass of wine and two bourbons. Once he was taken to jail he was asked to give two breath samples, which showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .155% and .163%. The legal limit in Florida is half that, .08%.
“Even one drink can put you over,” said Katz. “We have a lot of normal, good people out there who drive drunk and never realize it.”
