Deerfield, IL (PRWEB) July 28, 2014 -- Hosted Payload Alliance Applauds U.S. Air Force HoPS Contracts

The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) commends the U.S. Air Force for taking a critical step towards realizing the benefits commercial space companies can offer in hosting government payloads. On July 10, fourteen commercial satellite operators and space hardware manufacturers were awarded contracts through the Hosted Payload Solutions (HoPS) program.

“Commercial satellites can provide lower cost options, faster and increased access to space, plus an array of operational options resulting in a more resilient and affordable space architecture,” noted Janet Nickloy, HPA Chair and Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Harris Government Communication Systems. “The HPA was created to facilitate just these sorts of government – commercial initiatives.”

The HPA congratulates all 14 contract recipients, including Alliance members Boeing, Eutelsat America, Harris Corporation, Intelsat General, Lockheed Martin, SES Government Solutions and SSL, in addition to Astrium Services Government Inc., Exoterra Resources, Merging Excellence and Innovation Tech Inc., Millennium Engineering & Integration Co., Orbital Sciences Corp., Surrey Satellite Technology, and ViviSat LLC. Several other HPA members are participating as subcontractors to award recipients.

“The HPA will closely follow the progress of these contracts and continue supporting the SMC Hosted Payload Office in any way possible. We are eager to see HoPS succeed and expand,” said Nickloy.
