Hot Dog March Madness to Determine Best Regional Hot Dog In America
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) March 14, 2016 -- It is an all-American debate that has raged for generations: what is the best regional hot dog in America? In the spirit of March Madness, hot dog fans will have their say in the fourth annual National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) Hot Dog Madness bracket. The bracket features sixteen different regional hot dogs from the North, South, Midwest and West, each with unique styles and toppings beloved by locals.
“One of the things that makes hot dogs so special is they are prepared very differently depending on where you live,” said Eric Mittenthal, NHDSC president. “The passion for local hot dogs runs deep, and this bracket will give fans the chance to settle the best regional hot dog debate once and for all.”
People can vote for their favorite hot dogs online via polls on the NHDSC Facebook page with winners moving on to the next round. A different match-up will be posted each day through April 4, when the regional hot dog champion will be announced. Regional hot dog choices include New York, New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia in the North region; Chicago, Michigan, Cleveland and Kansas City in the Midwest; West Virginia, Georgia, Cincinnati and Washington, D.C. in the South; and Sonoran (Arizona), California, Seattle and Alaska in the West. In the inaugural Hot Dog Madness bracket in 2013, the West Virginia dog with chili, mustard and coleslaw atop a wiener on a steamed bun was the upset pick in a bracket featuring regional hot dog and sausage varieties. Last year, in a bracket matching up baseball hot dogs, fans chose the Cleveland Indians’ Sugardale dog as the best hot dog in baseball.
“Just as in basketball’s March Madness, expect Hot Dog Madness surprises and upsets,” said Mittenthal. “The fun part is seeing fans from different cities rally around their hot dog.”
Hot dog fans won’t just be choosing their favorite hot dogs; they have a chance to win as well. NHDSC t-shirts will be given away to people who vote in all 15 match-ups on Facebook. The participant who shares the polls with the most people on Facebook will win a gift card for his or her favorite hot dogs.
