In 2014, more than 1,380 DWI arrests and 18,886 speeding citations were made during spring break, leading to an expected increase in DWI and traffic patrols this year during the week-long holiday.
A shocking statistic paired with the fact that on average, females have 10 drinks per day while males drink approximately 18 drinks per day during spring break, according to the American College of Health.
With several popular spring break destinations located in Texas such as South Padre Island and Port Aransas, police officers will be out in full force in order to combat drunk driving and alcohol-related accidents. Last year, Texas Department of Public Safety increased DWI patrols during a spring break enforcement period which lasted 15 days, targeting high-risk locations.

During 2015’s spring break enforcement period, 728 felony arrests were made along with 23,600 other citations by Texas DPS troopers, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
