How a Results Proven Method by Effortless English Can Save Vietnam's National Foreign Languages 2020 Project
Vietnam (PRWEB) October 21, 2015 -- In 2008, the Prime Minister approved the “Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in the National Education System, Period 2008-2020” project. The goal of this project is to guarantee students graduating from secondary schools, vocational schools, colleges, and universities will be confidently using a foreign language in their daily work.
Findings have shown that after nine of years of studying English in schools and colleges, students still lack the ability to speak English fluently, and according to Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, “fail[ed] to communicate in English for any useful purpose”. With less than five years left in the Foreign Languages project, the pressure is on to find a way to effectively teach students English.
AJ Hoge, founder of Effortless English is bringing his proprietary approach to learning English and a new exclusive class created specifically for Vietnamese students to PASAL International in Hanoi from 17 November to 23 November, 2015. According to Mr. Hoge, “Traditional programs are simply failing English learners. International students need new approaches that help them achieve true fluency in the language–that is, the ability to communicate clearly, naturally, and effortlessly in English.”
Although the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training stresses the importance of practical communication skills, and has spent a great deal of money training teachers, significant results are not happening at the classroom level. Most schools continue to favor a grammar-translation approach.
In a study by Dr. Ashley Hastings, over a four-week period students learning with a natural approach improved three times faster than students using grammar-translation methods. Dr. Hastings states, “Whatever the grammar textbooks are teaching, it is not anything that normal speakers know or use.”
Mr. Hoge shared that the natural approach of teaching English is listening-based, focusing on exposure to natural speech instead of grammar practice. This method is similar to how students learn their native language. With over 40 million students who have achieved success with Effortless English and learning through the natural approach, Mr. Hoge is confident Vietnam’s 2020 project can be successful without adding time or undue costs. It is just a matter of Vietnam thinking outside the box and bringing people in who can teach the natural approach, which will create change and success in a short amount of time.
